Tidied up my ATmega328 circuit

I decided that I would dedicate my first ATmega328 to be a programmer for the ATtiny85. Up next, a ZIF socket to eliminate yet a few more tentacles from this beast beautiful mother ship.

Dear Tekduino, I believe it's time you teach your master about creating custom PCBs. This looks like a perfect way to start, it's small, it's easy, and it will be a custom made gadget just for you two to have a drink over. Add some communication LEDs, break out the SPI and FTDI pins, and you have something you can continue to reprogram, upgrade, and use to program others.

Add a memory bank, a select and repeat button, stand alone power, and you can be burning ATTiny's over and over again without needing to be connected to anything else. Have a beer or two after that. :)

I like the way you think Ashley. However, the old man seems quite content with breadboarding, tearing apart, and moving on to the next challenge. So many circuits made and dismantled t before their time... tsk, tsk, tsk.

Same here, love to breadboard stuff, try, test, break, investigate, in one word: experiment. But when find yourself creating something to aide in creating something else, it's worth making it (semi) permanent. :) Would be a shame to have to recreate it over and over again ...

One guy in the Sparkfun class had a board he bought from MightyOhm (I think). It had three separate ZIF sockets for three different microcontrolllers. Plug in the chip, program it, and deploy.

Ayup. They're not that hard to make yourself, and the satisfaction that you made it yourself ... well, that's just priceless. :)
